HALLS TO INTRODUCE TWO ASIAN ART AUCTIONS IN 2012
DECEMBER 14, 2011
Leading Shropshire fine art auctioneers Halls are introducing two auctions that focus on Asian art in 2012 to reflect the growing market for quality antiques in China.
The company will include a dedicated Asian art section in its April 18 and September 19 auctions at the Welsh Bridge saleroom in Shrewsbury and are now accepting entries.
“I believe there is a large amount of hidden and undervalued Asian art in Shropshire and surrounding counties and there has never been a better time to offer it at auction,” said Halls’ fine art director Jeremy Lamond.
“We look forward to lively interest in these new auctions due to the positive state of the market in this area. There is huge interest from Chinese mainland buyers in taking historical artefacts back to their country.”
In April, 40 pieces of Chinese jade and ceramics from the Brodie Lodge collection, once recognised as one of the finest in Europe, sold for £174,000 at Halls and the company attracted considerable interest for other Asian pieces throughout the year.
Halls are also adding an extra equestrian and sporting auction to its 2012 programme following the success of a sale last month. The auctions will be held on June 13 and November 7.
There will also be a focus on medals and coins at the company fine pictures, silver and jewellery auction on March 14, whilst militaria items are being sought for auctions on January 11 and August 8.
Popular quarterly collective auctions will be held on February 22, May 23, August 22 and December 5, whilst a new musical instruments auction is planned for May 2.
