Another good line up of Commercial Heifers with no superstars in the line-up but some very milky types about.

The sale commenced with a 35kg 2nd Calved cow from Mark Hughes of Criggion, which sold for £1250 to DI Jones of Habberley. The pick of the heifers came from Huw Roberts of Wrexham whose well balanced very clean 25kg heifer was snapped up by Howard Phillips. Next in the prices were 2 heifers which achieved £1580, firstly for Gilmore Evans cow marker, followed by a powerhouse of a heifer from Keith Jones of Wigley. A very pleasing a level trade was witnessed today, with many buyers looking for all types, a British Frisian Heifer from TR Savage Achieved £1120, while a ¾ heifer sold for a pleasing £980.

Trade not quite as fast as previously weeks with buyers a little hesitate to get started however, averages and returns have come favourably. The top of the day came for a 32 month old Friesian Bull from G M hughes of Chirk weighing 782kg selling for 130ppk of £1016.60, 2 lightweight Limouins bulls from J Hotchkiss and Son sold for £820.80 (114p)
The Suckler reached to 135ppk (£853.20) for a feeding cow from J Hotchkiss & Son of Bowling Green, while other Limousin x cattle sold to £887.74 (119ppk) & £837.50 (125ppk) For L Stone of Villa Farm, £858.52 (127ppk) for HW & SM Tuffin.

Dairy Cows achieved the highest price for RL Jones & Son fo Lythwell, with a well fleshed cow selling for £967.74 or 127ppk. Dairy cows with meat and weight sold from 105-127 today with the plainer heavy cows sold for 85-99p, Cows sold from £203-£967.74 with buyers for every class of cow on offer.

A packed ringside met a super entry of buyers looking to purchase all that were on offer. A pleasure to sell, from start to finish, with a real cross section of cattle, there was something for everyone Suckler breds, Dairy Breds, Angus, Hereford, well fed and lean cattle and all met a grand trade.

The Sale commences with 3 Hereford Stock Bulls, the First a Strong 3 ½ year old “Cow Bull” from Rob Trevor, this upstanding bull sold for £1700, while younger bulls ready for work fro the High ealth High House Herd of Richard Whitlow achieved £1720 and £1600, There was substantial demand for these bulls, if you have any to offer in the coming sale please do not hesitate to book them in and make the most of our pre sale advertising options.

The Weanling Bulls met a very strong demand, topping at £805 for B & EI Carr of Worcestershire 11mo Limousin a 7mo Blue from the same home sold for £625. An 8mo Suckler bred Limousin bull from FC millward. Blonde Bulls from H A Morgan at 8 mo sold for £590, while dairy x blondes also 8mo from JM & P Thomas achieved £565. A highlight of the day was £455 achieved for 5 x 8mo Friesian Bulls from B & EI Carr

Suckler Steers topped the sale charts with a Limousin from Frazer Jones selling to £810, while a super 11mo Charolais bullock from New Vendor Morris Jones, Llanwrthwl achieved £760, A cracking 8mo Limousin Steer from N & K Unwin flew to £685. Sucker Bred heifers were a hot ticket item today with a pair of Charolais selling to £725 at 10mo for DF & MC Hughes, Meifod whose Limousin Heifers achieved £690. A belting Limousin Heifer from N & K Unwin again 8mo sold to £715.

Today entry was bolstered by a consignment of predominately Angus Cattle from RS Davies & Partners, Manchester. These cattle had not been pushed, and had great potential for next spring ranging in age from 6mo to 13months the top trade was achieved for a pens of 2 x 9mo Angus Steers at 575, with others achieving £565 (2), £545 (2), Hereford from the same home achieved £490. Richard Fairbanks brought another group of 25 weanling this week being his 3rd draw, his Angus bullock sold to £535 at 9mo his Herefords to £475.

Continental x Heifers were sought buy many buyers today topped at £590, £575, £530 for 8-10mo Heifers from JM & P Thomas’ Blue, £580 was achieved by I Richards, 2 x 5 month old Simmental Heifers from FC Millward, Moat farm sold for £375. Angus Heifers at 10 months old from RS Davies and partners sold for £510. 5 month old Hereford Heifers from the same home achieved £350.

SPRING LAMBS (790)

Overall Average: 167pp/kg

A reduced entry of Spring lambs this week, the trade is slightly up on the previous week with an overall average of 167ppk.

Standard weight lambs (32-39kg) averaged 165ppk and sold for top price of 183ppk (69.50) for 38kg lamb presented by RH Cliffton. Medium weight (39-45kg) sold to an average of 172ppk with top price of 174ppk (£78) for 45kg lambs from T & T Powell.
Heavy weighs (45-52kg) sold at an average of 166ppk with a top price of 174ppk (£84) from GT Pope & Sons.
Over 52kg sold at an average of 160ppk with a top price of 167ppk (£91) from AJ Jarrett, which was the top price lamb in the market today.
The demand is noticeably better for lambs with meat and there is an increasingly two tier marker between those with meat and those without.

CULL EWES & RAMS (412)

A slightly smaller number of Barren Sheep forward today but non the less still a decent entry. Trade has picked up on last week with ewes averaging £7 dearer than last week and Tups averaging well at just under £80. Top price today went to GH Davies for a pen of Texels with another pen of Texels from the same home for the same money. Suffolks peaked at £97, with no shortage of pens selling for £90.
Only 6 Rams forward today, topping out at £180 for a 2yo Texel presented by DV Hughes. A cracking Shropshire made £104 for CT Timmis with 2 Zwarbles reaching £36 and £35 respectively and a Jacob selling for £35.50.

CALVES (138)

A market full of calves this week with 138 forward and a good trade on the best sorts yet again.

Mr Pain topped the market again with a smashing Charollais at £395 whilst Mr Harris made £380 of a cracking Lim from Beguildy. A seriously well grown Blue from Neville Griffiths topped £352 whilst another from J D Jones made £330. Other Lims from Messrs Rees sold to £260 as did medium Blues from Birchall. The Birchalls topped the trade in the natives with £230 for a Hereford with others from Mr Johnson at £200. Angus’s from Eyton Farms were up to £150. Trade of the Friesians was back a little this week with the best from Mr James making £115, mediums only up to £45 and smalls around that £20-£40 mark.

Mr Pain topped the tree in the heifers too with another Charollais at £310. Mr Griffith had another quality Blue at £280 whilst Lims from Mr Rees were up to £200. Herefords from Mr Johnson again topped out at £205.

A good selection of weanlings today with a consignment of Angus’ from Messrs Davies of Ashley topping out at £315 for steers and £255 for heifers at 5-6 months old and a nice Blue Heifer which made £320.
