DAIRY CATTLE (31)

Auctioneer: Jonny Dymond

Heifers to £1800 Cows to £1650

A busy ringside for this the first in a busy run of dispersals, show and sales through to Mid Late November, if you have not bought or sold with us for a while we would be delighted to see faces old and new at ringside.

We witnessed a fantastic trade throughout today with the ongoing dispersal of the Dolerw Herd from G Hughes and Son, Caersws, setting the tone for a very successful days trading , first in the ring the 3rd calved cow giving 26kg sold for £1450. Martin Jones of Minsterley also sold his fresh heifer with good potential giving 22kg for £1730.

Today we welcomed the first consignment to disperse the Dairy Herd for J R Jones and Co of Burwarton, these very genuine and milky Friesian and Montbeliarde type cows were keenly sought by a large company of buyers with the trade peaking at £1800 for a Montbliard heifer giving 27kg, selling to James Meddins while a British Frieisan flew to £1750 purchased by Nick Evans, The Montbeliardes also topped the cows from this good home with a 3rd calver giving 39kg achieving a very pleasing £1650 selling to James Summers.  Of special note would be the strong trade for the second quality and aged cows, not better represented by the £1100 bid for 6th Calving Holstein cow which calved back in early August.

A very good trade for well-presented milky cattle today.

BARREN COWS/OTM’S (20)

Auctioneer: Jonny Dymond

Top £885 or 125ppk

Ave 616 or 97ppk

A smaller entry than of late and given the awful weekend I did expect more. No heavy weights or super shapes to take the trade to high premiums or high prices but an improvement in the averages. Not doubt the half meat cows were better sold today with a lot of middle road bug framed Holsteins from 99-105 some 10 pence better sold than last week.

A good even fleshed Hereford from T Hamer achieved 125ppk or £885 with Dairy cows selling £839.16 (111ppk) for W G Bebbington to 115ppk (828)for first time vender Mr John Hopley of Winsford’s British Frisian. Trade range for 58p for the lightweight and plain to 125p for the meat today with competitive bidding for all.

MORE PLEASE, FARM ASSURED, NON ASSURED, BRITISH OR FOREIGN WE HAVE TRADE FOR THEM ALL.

REMEMBER IF YOUR TB FREE YOU DO NOT NEED TO TB TEST YOUR COWS TO BRING THEM TO MARKET!!

CALVES (110)

Auctioneers: Stuart Richards

           David Edwards

An autumnal trade today, with price not at their previous dizzy heights we had a solid trade considering the type and size of calves forward.

Best in the bulls was a well formed Blue from Mr Phillips which made good money at £338 whilst Mr James of Berriew had another Blue at £300. Sims from the Holts of Wells Farm, Stafford sold extremely well to £278 whilst Lims from the Jones of West Felton sold to a high of £195. Mr Ford of Prees presented one of the best looking Angus Bulls I have seen in a while in the natives which made £360 on a fast trade with Herefords from the Williams of Weston Lullingfields making £220. The best Friesians of the day were making £118 from Mr Lewis of Woodcote Farm with another from Mr Ford at £98. Other better Friesians were up to £66 with mediums around £55 and smalls up to £30.

Blue heifers from Mr Crowther of Coppice Farm sold well today topping out at £245 with Mr Lloyd making £240 of his. Sims from the Farms of Berriew were making £215 and Lims from Mr Jones of West Felton were up to £162. A similar Angus from Mr Ford smashed through to top the trade in the heifers too at £310 whilst the best Herefords from the Williams sold to £150.

CULL EWES & RAMS (110)

Auctioneer:   James Evans

Another reduced entry of Cull Ewes and Rams this week compared with previous weeks. Larger meated sorts sold well with the top price of the day going to £115 for a Ewe presented by JS Vance & Son, proving there is still a high demand for meated sorts, with lighter sorts proving harder to sell.

The top price for Rams this week was £90 presented by GV & JA Hardman of Clamp Farm.

The Cull Ewe Average was up from the previous week at £49.09 whereas the average for the Cull Tup has remained positive at £62.08.
