DAIRY CATTLE (132)

Auctioneer: Jonny Dymond

A great day in the dairy section, with a great buzz around our ringside, with familiar and returning faces making looking to purchase some wonderful genuine cattle that were on offer.

The weekly Sale kicked off with a bang with prices to £2100 for Rob Evans, an in calf heifer from J R Owen £990.

The dispersal sale from A H Francis & Son was a credit to all involved with the farm after such difficult circumstances, to have the herd turned out on such good condition after such a hard summer was truly a result of fantastic work of the team at Cottage Farm and a great tribute to John.

The sale drew buyers from far and wide looking for what can only be described as a modern Holstein Friesian Dairy Cow, wide chested, carrying the power throughout, neat tight udders and fabulous legs and feet, there is no doubt in our minds that these cows will go anywhere and perform. The top of the trade was £2020 for a fresh 2nd Calving Cow, giving 32kg of milk, sired by Mccormick she was purchased by Messrs M P Mason. The same buyer purchased another Fresh 3rd Calving cow at £1950. August Calving Cows rose to £1800 for another 3rd Calver purchased by Harry Edwards. Cows due to calf next spring were in good demand with April Calving topping at £1680 going to James brook.

However a Highlight of the sale would be the in calf cows due between the sale of January, they were all in super condition and sold to £1500 for a cow due with her 2nd in mid-November to Mr Phil Ford, with a very strong showing for these cattle from £1200-1400 there appeared real confidence in the early 2019 milk price.

A Big entry this week, not doubt bolstered by the dairy dispersal, it is great to see the market so busy!
