Heifers to £2000 Cows to £1780, In Calf Heifers to £980

Another week with the penning being used to full potential, which all were happy to see. A stronger weekly entry today with 15 on offer in advance of next week’s show and sale saw trade peak at £2000 for a wonderful Fresh heifer from Mark Hughes of Criggion, she was secure by James Paddock, Mark also did exceptionally well with 2 imported Dutch Heifers which sold for £1920 & £1720. A powerful heifer from Rob Trevor met spirited bidding to £1880. Fresh Cows peaked at £1500 for a tidy cow 2nd calved pedigree cow from Richard Thompson of Derby.

Today we welcomed the sale of Crossbred Dairy Cattle from WP & GH Rogers of Higher Tederwen. The herd was bred for ease of management originating from the Holstein, with the inclusion of Swedish and Norwegian red genetics, the result was a medium size cow, with good legs and feet and very sound udders which would stand the test of time. There was an army of regular and fresh buyers in attendance from the across the region to Anglesey, Denbigh and beyond.

Top seller in the dispersal was £1780 achieved twice for Fresh 3rd Calved Holstein type cows both were purchased by Messrs P S Jones of Anglesey who purchased 20 animals in total. Other fresh cows sold for £1650 for a 2nd calving Swedish red to Messrs Morris of Llangedwyn. A 4th Lactation cow giving 44kg of milk also sold incredibly well to achieved £1620 again to P S Jones.  The same buyer also took home to top dry cow of the day at £1550.

The smaller Cross bred stale and dry cows due from December to February saw some very strong and level demand selling to £1220 for a Cow due in January who sold to Richard Fairbanks of Middletown, with those in favourable condition selling consistently from £900-£1200 to a variety of different buyers.

Animals which were fresh in the last 3 months and those due up to February were in the best demand, Buyers we picking those animals that were back in calf to a guaranteed service that had not lost time. There was a second tier trade for those cows which calving in the early/mid-summer but were unserved or unguaranteed

A run of in-calf heifers due next May and June sold for up to £760

NEXT WEEK – 90 HOLSTEIN & SWEDISH/NORWEIGAN RED Youngstock from 1-22 months old from WP & GH Rogers (Dispersal)
