The start of the new year has already seen a noticeable increase in enquiries from people looking to move house in 2020. One category, however, that is seeing particularly strong demand, is new homes in our area.

Margaret Herbert, from our branch in Barker Street in Shrewsbury, says that demand for houses locally is currently outstripping supply with new-build properties being particularly popular as they are low maintenance, have structural warranties and lower energy bills.

Demand for new homes is very high at the moment, a particularly good example being the fantastic Fletcher Homes development, Berrington Meadows in Cross Houses which is 5 miles south of Shrewsbury. Of the 48 houses on the first phase of development 32 are sold/occupied with some of the properties being snapped up within the first week of going on sale.

Petra Cadman, Sales and Marketing Manager at Fletcher Homes said that Fletcher Homes, like Halls, has a big birthday this year, celebrating 80 years since it was founded. She says their success lies in the fact that they build to suit the site. They take a lot of care to make sure the overall street scene is attractive, spend a lot of time choosing heritage bricks and exterior paintwork colours, and they combine this with some of the best modern features buyers expect.

Fletcher Homes thinks buyers still love traditional houses but are also looking for good transport links to Shrewsbury, Telford and beyond, ultrafast fibre broadband, USB port sockets and electric spurs for charging electric cars. The development at Berrington Meadows offers all of these, as well as Mitsubishi Ground Source Heat Pumps which mean the properties all enjoy underfloor heating downstairs and, because the houses are well insulated, may reduce heating bills too.

The site at Cross Houses is about to be enlarged further as phase two starts, including better road access from the busy Shrewsbury to Much Wenlock road, a short drive from the A5. With more houses coming available in the coming months Halls expects three bed detatched properties to be snapped up very quickly. The Burlton, at £265,000, is the best seller but the site also includes a small amount of social housing as well as semi-detached houses from £203,000 and larger properties too which means there is something for everyone, making it a lovely place to live.

Petra said they’ve been very pleased with the success of Berrington Meadows and with Margaret and the team at Halls for all their hard work in promoting it, encouraging people to visit the showhouse and for their customer service too.
