A fantastic entry of 79 pedigree cattle was reported by our Auctioneers for the Shropshire Holstein Club Show and Sale held at Shrewsbury Auction Centre on August 18.
Show champion, top heifer and winner of the Styche Armour Hilgonda Trophy was STYCHE CHASE DORIS from Tony Scott which sold for £3,900. Tony also saw two further heifers sell for £3,680 and £3600.
Reserve champion and top cow was FFRWD CAPTAIN CARIAD EX91 from Aintree Holsteins, Hope, Wrexham which sold for £3,250. The show was judged by Jonathan Scott, of Scotts Farms, Hanmer.
The other prizewinners were: Cows: 2, FLAGG MAJOR RAVEN from Mycocks Agri Ltd, Flagg, Derbyshire which sold for £2,850, 3, UPPERSEVERN MARVEL ROMA VG85 from J. E. Thomas & Sons, Welshpool which sold for £3,050.
Heifers: 2, UPPERSEVERN ELEVATED POLLY 3 from J. E .Thomas & Sons which sold for £3,150, 3, MILLENHEATH CIRRUS WELCOME from Millenheath Farms, Whitchurch which sold for £3,800.
“The champion, STYCHE CHASE DORIS, was a standout heifer in what was a truly superb show of milkers from 33 different homes,” said Jonny Dymond, Shrewsbury Auction Centre Manager & Auctioneer. “She was giving 35kg and I don’t think there was a single improvement anyone would make to her.
“In all, 34 cattle sold for £3,000 or more such was the quality, with bidders all around the ringside. At £3,800 was the third prize winning heifer from Millenheath Farms, a milk machine producing 37kg. Two further heifers this this home sold for £3,620 and £3,400.”
The trade was strong form start to finish, with £3,580 for DRAKELOW HOBBY MARCIE from Eatonwood, a heifer giving 38kg and £3,550 the final pedigree milker in the ring, DILANDY FUEL HELEN from Helen Stubbs.
A fresh entry by returning W. A. Jones of Fenns Bank, peaked at £3050, while spring calved PD+ heifers flew to £3,350 for FENNSHALL JACUZZI DAISY.
Fresh cows were topped by the show’s reserve champion, a fourth calver from Aintree Holsteins which sold for £3,250. Third lactation commercial cows sold to £3,000 for A. & C. Drinkall.
